Must-do activities with your family in Val d'Isère this summer

Whether you are a fan of mountain hiking, rock climbing in the great outdoors, mountain biking, or water sports, Val d’Isère brings together all these activities in one resort. As you may have guessed, there’s something for everyone. We have compiled our selection of the best family-friendly activities to do in Val d’Isère during the summer.

Climbing, Hiking, and Riding

in the Mountains and Woods

For nature and mountain adventure lovers, we recommend the Via Ferrata Roc de Tovière, which has offered routes for all levels since 1998. The first part of the course is ideal for introducing children and parents to this sport. You will progress on airy ledges and even cross a bridge, all with a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains. For the more daring, the second part, or the entire course, will test you on a more demanding route bordering on climbing. You will navigate pillars, ledges, bridges, technical ascents, and descents. To complete the second part, you’ll need to cover 750 meters of cables, and for the entire course, 1400 meters. The highest point of the via ferrata is 400 meters higher than the starting point of the route. We also recommend the via ferrata “les Plates de la Daille,” which offers 650 meters to cover and 421 meters of vertical drop. It’s not particularly challenging compared to the Roc de Tovière, apart from a passage in the first part of the route that requires a bit of arm strength. This via Ferrata does not have as many facilities as the previous one, but you will have the pleasure of crossing a large slab overlooking the entrance to Val d’Isère.To reach the starting points, you can park at the shopping centre parking lot facing “Pierre et Vacances” and then follow the marked trails. We advise you to plan this activity for a day, taking into account the time to walk back through beautiful trails. This type of activity involves risks and requires specific equipment and a good understanding of safety practices.

If you want to go even higher or simply seek some thrills, we recommend the Parcours Val’Aventure. The park offers five 100% secured treetop adventure courses (with safety lines and experienced monitors) suitable for various levels: “Pitchoun” for the youngest (from 4 years old), “Découverte” and “Découverte+” for ages 6+, “Aventure” with increasingly complex workshops, “Sensation” for adventurers, and finally, “Extrême,” a black-level course. A forest terrace and picnic tables are also available, along with snacks to satisfy your appetite. If you choose this activity, you will need to make a reservation. Access is from the parking lot at the centre or Bellevarde in the Solaise forest; follow the signs.

If you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, we recommend reading the article we dedicated to the most beautiful hiking and trail itineraries to do around Val d’Isère. For a mountain expedition with the family, we suggest spending a night at the Prariond Refuge for an unforgettable experience (reservation required). If there are cyclists and bike enthusiasts in the family, the Tiges – Val d’Isère bike park will be their headquarters. With its 220 kilometres of trails, lovers of H / Downhill, XC / Cross Country, and All Mountain Enduro will have a great time. To access the starting points of the courses, you will need to use the ski lifts and/or shuttles. Suppose you want to improve your cycling skills. In that case, mountain biking schools with certified instructors and E-Bike rental services are available in various stores in the resort. If you’re new to E-Biking, Val d’Isère has set up a new “First Ride” area, where you can enjoy beautiful routes at the foot of Bellevarde, shorter than those in the bike park.

If you’re looking for a whole load of activities and can’t decide which one to choose, we recommend the ValPass, a multi-activity card available in Val d’Isère.

Relaxation, Recreation, and Water Activities

at the Summit

For those who love water, we suggest visiting the Aquasport Centre in Val d’Isère. Its leisure pool, flowing river, water cannons, massaging jets, bubble bench, and 25 x 10 meters swimming pool will entertain both young and old.

For relaxation, we recommend stopping at our Avancher hotel and testing our wellness area with a sauna, jacuzzi, and steam room in a bright and relaxing space. If you try it, you will surely remember our cosmic sauna on the hotel’s roof, offering a breathtaking view of the Olympic face of Bellevarde.

As you can see, you won’t be bored in Val d’Isère this summer!
